Abstract: In the poststructural environment beginning from the 1970s, such cultural and critical thoughts as New Historicism and Postcolonialism have significantly enriched and expanded the concept of world literature and contributed to the reconstruction of Western literary canon. With the pervasive impacts of these thoughts, the traditional boundaries of world literature have been fundamentally loosened, if not disintegrated, leading to more and more opening and tolerance for marginal cultures, subaltern cultures and minority cultures in the canons. The world-renowned anthologies such as the Norton and the Longman anthologies have increasingly become more tolerant and plural in both theoretical and practical dimensions. This “swerving” has brought about not only changes in literary studies and the compiling of literary anthologies, but also in our ways of looking at the concepts of world literature, the traditional Western canon, and literary history.
