Abstract: Although Pascale Casanova classifies V. S. Naipaul as an “assimilated” figure in world literature, the writer Singh in The Mimic Men embodies qualities that align more closely with Casanova’s concept of “the rebel.” In The Red and the Black, Caribbean experience is reduced to a parenthetical aside, whereas Singh, in contrast to Stendhal’s approach, presents his own life through a full-length memoir. Furthermore, Singh holds starkly different evaluations of his marriage and political career: the former is negatively depicted as an episode enclosed in parentheses, while the latter is endowed with historical value as a search for a new order. By juxtaposing Singh’s reverse-chronological narrative with his father’s ritual of the “aśvamedha” and the emergence of the Non-Aligned Movement in the Global South, Naipaul positions writing itself as an indispensable dimension of the Global South’s struggle for a new international order.

摘要： 尽管卡萨诺瓦将奈保尔界定为世界文学中的“被同化者”,但奈保尔在小说《模仿者》中塑造的写作者辛格,却展现出与卡萨诺瓦所定义的“反叛者”相契合的特质。在《红与黑》中,加勒比人的经验仅被压缩为括号中的一个附注,辛格则一反司汤达的做法,用一部长篇回忆录呈现自己的一生。此外,辛格对于自己的婚姻生活与政治生涯有着截然不同的评价,前者被描绘为括号内的片段,后者则被赋予了寻找新秩序的历史价值。奈保尔将辛格的反时序写作、父亲策划的“马祭”与全球南方开启的不结盟运动三者并置,使写作构成了全球南方争取国际新秩序不可或缺的面向。
