Abstract: Yang Hui’s 1926 Chinese translation of Prometheus Bound was recently discovered to have first appeared in the Huabei Daily Supplement in November 1929, more than two years before the single volume edition issued by Humanities Bookstore in 1932. As a newly discovered historical source, this newspaper publication marks a new point of departure in the centennial history of Chinese translations of ancient Greek tragedy. The completion of this translation was closely linked with Yang Hui’s involvement in the Chenzhong Society’s translation and literary activities and Yang’s role as editor-in-chief of Huabei Daily Supplement also provided the opportunity for this translated tragedy’s first publication. By analyzing the subtle differences between the newspaper edition and single volume edition, this paper examines how the translation and publication process of the tragedy reflect changes in character usage during the Republican period. Furthermore, changes in publication media themselves constitute indelible evidence in the history of Chinese translations of foreign drama.

摘要： 杨晦1926年翻译的《被幽囚的普罗密修士》,近期被发现最早刊登于1929年11月的《华北日报副刊》,早于1932年北平人文书店发行的悲剧单行本。报载的汉译悲剧作为新发现的史料,成为古希腊悲剧百年汉译史之新起点。该译本的完成与杨晦所在的“沉钟社”的翻译和创作文学活动同音共律,而杨晦出任报纸副刊主编为该剧的首度刊载面世提供了契机。本文辨析该汉译悲剧从报载版译文到单行本译文的细微差别,探究译剧文本及其刊载历程所反映的民国时期用字的变化,而刊本媒介的变化也成为外来戏剧汉译历史中不可磨灭的印证。
