Abstract: Overseas host-language Chinese literature targets the foreign readerships. To attract readers, it often tends to present exoticism and caters to orientalist stereotypes of Chinese people prevalent abroad. Sinophone Literature, on the other hand, is aimed primarily at Chinese-speaking readers. It frequently conveys the hardships Chinese people encounter in foreign cultural environments and expresses nationalist sentiments. As two distinct aspects of overseas Chinese literature, overseas host-language Chinese literature and Sinophone literature are complementary to each other. Only by examining them together can one fully grasp the complete picture of overseas Chinese literature.

摘要： 华裔文学面向外国读者,常常有意无意地表现异国情调,迎合国外对于中国人的东方主义固定看法。华文文学面向中文读者,作品常常描写中国人在国外的艰辛,传达民族主义感情。华裔文学与华文文学是海外华人文学的不同侧面,两者是互补的,只有结合起来看才能完整体现海外华人文学的面貌。
