Abstract: This study examines representative trauma narratives from both China and the United States through an intercultural perspective. The research reveals that trauma narratives in contemporary American fiction emphasize the unassimilable alterity of trauma through temporal fragmentation, psychological spatialization, and formal experimentation. In contrast, modern and contemporary Chinese trauma narratives highlight the historical and collective embeddedness of trauma through temporal continuity, social spatialization, and testimonial content. Moving beyond binary opposition, this study argues that these two narrative paradigms constitute complementary perspectives for understanding the multiple dimensions of trauma. In the context of globalization, such intercultural dialogue provides crucial resources for developing more complex trauma theories and more diverse literary practices.
