Abstract: At the turn of 19th century, the modern chemical revolution started almost simultaneously with the romantic literary revolution, and this temporal overlap of two seemingly unrelated cultural phenomena provided an opportunity for their deep interaction. Similar to biology, the connection between living and nonliving through organic and inorganic chemistry is particularly attractive to romantic writers. In the new opening of modern culture, Humphry Davy not only embarked on his brilliant career as an outstanding chemist, but also injected a scientific catalyst into the nascent English Romantic Literature Movement because of his close association with the Lake Poets. In this regard, an analysis of David as a “poet-chemist” offers a paradigmatic significance for the interdisciplinary research between literature and science.
