Abstract: Zhou Zuoren has repeatedly claimed that he is a “doctrine of the mean.” To explore the reasons, the influence of Chinese traditional culture is on the one hand, and the acceptance of western culture represented by Alice is on the other hand. The latter better mediates the internal and external contradictions of “Neutralization” and conflicts. This paper explains the basic connotation of Zhou Zuoren's “doctrine of the mean” from the dimension of epistemology and methodology. At the same time, in view of Zhou Zuoren's equating Ellis's thought with the “doctrine of the mean”, this paper attempts to make a dialectical analysis and presentation of his original thought with the help of Ellis's works. From the two aspects of ideological origin and theoretical connotation, this paper reveals Zhou Zuoren's discovery, acceptance and deduction of Ellis's “philosophy of balance and conflict”, as well as the analysis of the dislocation phenomenon.

摘要： “中庸”是周作人人生观念与艺术创作中的一个高频范畴,生活中的“苦茶主义”、散文中的“平和冲淡”、思想中的“新村主义”均可视为其“中庸”思想的外溢与延伸。“中庸”观念对于周作人而言是多方思想资源融通而成,中国传统文化的影响是一方面,对蔼理斯的接受是另一方面。后者较好地调处了“中和”的内外矛盾,平抑了周作人内心深层的矛盾与冲突。周作人在对蔼理斯“冲突之哲学”的阅读、接受与演绎中将蔼理斯思想与“中庸”划上等号,存在着一定程度的错位现象。本文从思想渊源和基本意旨两个层面对周作人“中庸主义”进行阐释,并试图借助蔼理斯原著对两者进行辩证分析与观点呈现。
