Abstract: Tcheng Ki-tong, a famous diplomat in late Qing Dynasty, published eight French works including Les Chinois peints par eux memes in the late 19th century and early 20th century. These works are Tcheng Ki-tong's attempts to reconstruct Chinese image to Europeans with the method of “comparative custom research”. In Tcheng Ki-tong's works, the Chinese live and work in peace and contentment, tranquility and self-sufficiency, as in an eternal utopia. At the same time, Tcheng Ki-tong was also deeply influenced by the French spirit when he used proficient vernacular literature and borrowed from the narrative methods of modern novels in the creation of his novel Le roman de l'homme jaune. Especially valuable is that Tcheng Ki-tong accepted the concept of the world literature and realized the exchanges between China and the West through the translation of Chinese classical poetry and Liao zhai zhi yi.

摘要： 陈季同是晚清中国著名的外交官,曾在19世纪末20世纪初出版了《中国人自画像》等8部法文著作。这些著作都是陈季同以“比较风俗研究”的方法向欧洲读者重建中国形象的积极尝试。在陈季同的笔下,中国被建构为宁静、自足的永恒的乌托邦。同时,受到法国精神的影响,陈季同在长篇小说《黄衫客传奇》的创作中,使用了纯熟的白话文学,并借鉴了现代小说的叙事方法。而尤其可贵的是,陈季同早于同时代人接受了“世界文学”的观念,以中国古典诗歌和《聊斋志异》的翻译来实现中西之间的文学与文化交流。
