Abstract: The two editions of “A Return to the Frontier”, which spanned 20 years, are important bilingual texts written by Eileen Chang. The English version of “A Return to the Frontier” is Eileen Chang's English travel notes published in the American Journal The Reporter in March 1963. Around 1982, Eileen Chang, semi-reclusive in Los Angeles, translated it in Chinese. The English writing and Chinese translation, based on her only short experience in Hong Kong and Taiwan after she moved to the United States, has special and typical significance in her later works. The two versions connect the two stages between Eileen Chang's English writing in the United States for more than ten years and her returning to Chinese writing in the last twenty years. By comparing the differences of English and Chinese versions, we can have a clearer understanding of Eileen Chang 's textual generation driven by her inner creative psychology and external communication, and her reestablishment of the emotional connection with cultural China from the 1960s to 1980s.

摘要： 英中两个版本的《重访边城》是后期张爱玲(1955-1995)双语创作的重要文本。英文版《重返边城》(A Return to the Frontier)是张爱玲1963年3月发表在美国The Reporter双周刊上的游记。1982年前后,在洛杉矶处于半隐居状态的张爱玲用中文将其重新译写为《重访边城》。以赴美后唯一一次短暂港台经历为背景所创作的英文首作与中文译写,使这篇散文在张爱玲后期创作中尤为特别和具典型意义。两个版本连接起张爱玲在美前10余年的英文创作与最后20年回归中文创作的阶段变迁史。对比英中两个版本的译写差异,可借此明辨后期张爱玲内在心境和外在语境相互作用的文本生成过程,也从一个侧面说明1960-1980年代的张爱玲与文化中国的情感重建与深度关联。
