Abstract: Confucius's remarks on “keji fuli” in The Analects have been a source of controversy throughout Chinese history. It thus remains an important yet unanswered question as to how Western translators over the past three centuries translated these remarks and why they translated in such ways. Through examining the translations of Confucius's words by representative translators in major Western languages, this article sorts out four types of translations with different and even conflicting interpretations. In addition, it analyzes the historical and personal impacts informing these translations, and evaluates them in the context of Western dissemination of Confucianism.

摘要： 《论语》中孔子阐述“克己复礼”一段在历史上争议不断。那么,过去300百多年来西方译者们怎样翻译这段文字并为何如此翻译,这是一个亟待探讨的重要课题。本文梳理了17世纪末以来西方主要语言中有代表性的《论语》译者对这段文字的处理,归纳出4种理解相异甚至相反的译法,分析了不同译文的历史背景和译者意图,并从翻译“移植”论的角度对这4种译法在儒学西传中的得失进行评价。
