Abstract: Due to the radiating influence of Han culture in East Asia, scholarly attention has often concentrated on Northeast Asian minorities. However, Southeast Asian minorities, also classified among the weaker Eastern ethnic peoples, deserve equal consideration. Through the transformative effect of the “Nanyang experience,” Chinese writers who migrated to Southeast Asia and later returned gradually developed a consciousness of Southeast Asian minority resistance. As this consciousness flowed back and was flexibly intergrated into the Chinese context, six prototypical modes of writing emerged to portray such resistance. These diverse expressions break away from the established narrative schema of East Asian minority resistance, enrich the literary map of Eastern minority resistance, and elevate its ideological scope to the level of global anti-imperialist and anti-colonial struggle.

Key words: Chinese writers who migrated to Southeast Asia and later returned, Nanyang experience, resistance writing of Southeast Asian miniorities, literature of Eastern minority resistance
