翻译“福尔摩斯”与维新视域下《时务报》的说部实践

摘要/Abstract

摘要： 《福尔摩斯探案集》经过张坤德在《时务报》上的翻译,首次登陆中国,其作为侦探小说的叙事功能和文体价值却并不被重视。在维新运动特殊的历史语境中,这部小说与报译栏目一起,构成了对于文化现代性的一种译介,迎合了中国士人有关广译世界知识、更新文明的期待;但译者在翻译过程中呈现出的文化干预姿态,也显露出维新士人强调“群”而忽略“个”的精神症候,成为戊戌时期说部实践乃至维新运动的一个现实缩影。

Abstract: After Zhang Kunde's translation in The Chinese Progress, Sherlock Holmes was for the first time brought to China.However,its narrative function and stylistic value as a detective fiction did not receive the due attention.In the historical context of the Reform Movement,the fiction,together with newspaper translation column,constituted a way of interpreting cultural modernity,which catered to the Chinese intellectuals' expectations of translating the knowledge of the world and renewing civilization.Yet the translator's attitude of cultural intervention in the process of translation revealed the reformers' mental symptom of stressing “group” and neglecting “individual”,which shows the reality of the Novel Practice and the Reform Movement.
