Abstract: German Expressionist writer Klabund has created a large number of works closely related to Chinese literature. His successful adaptation of Chinese poetry not only had a profound impact on contemporary German writers, but also made a huge contribution to the spread of Chinese poetry around the world. This article takes Klabund’s conception of world literature as the starting point, focusing on his first collection of Chinese poetry, Dumpfe Trommel und berauschtes Gong (Muffled Drum and Intoxicated Gong), and explores the role of Chinese literature in Klabund’s reflection on the times and individual crises at the level of ideological themes, and also examines Klabund’s highly personal translation strategy at the level of poetic form, providing a reference for Chinese culture going global.
