明清“性灵”诗论的现代符号学诠释

摘要: 清初三大诗学理论“性灵”“神韵”与“格调”是中国古典诗论在文论历时谱系中的共时表达,其中“性灵”在现代语境中评述颇多。本文运用皮尔斯符号学理论,从性灵的主体、符号与结构三方面探讨中国古典诗学中“性灵”诗论之特征,认为主体(流派)对客体(诗论)的理解呈无限递归的趋势;性灵符号的“真”与“变”反映了文人对复古思潮的反思和批判,对社会现实的策应;“趣”结构成为性灵诗论的艺术表达。通过阐释,本文认为“性灵”诗论是历代文人“自恋”意识的集合,其诗性语言符号的自指性和理据性的统一传达了他们对人性的怜悯和才情的珍视。这种诠释为中国古代文论的现代哲思开辟了蹊径,同时也为世界符号学的中国阐释提供了新的研究视角。

Abstract: “Personal Nature (Hsing-ling),Spiritual Nature (Shen-yün) and Formal Style (Ko-tiao)” are acknowledged as three poetic theories in the early Qing Dynasty,which are the synchronic expressions of Chinese classical poetics in the diachronic pedigree of literary theories.“Hsing-ling,” in particular,has been reexamined within modern context by some critics.This paper attempts to interpret Hsing-ling poetics from three dimensions using C.S.Peirce's semiotic theory:the subject,the sign and the structure.The study demonstrates that three main characteristics are embodied in Hsing-ling poetics.First,Hsing-ling poetry presents a continuous understanding between the subject (the school of poets) and the object (poetics),suggesting a process of an infinite recursion.Second,the sign relation of “truth” and “change” embedded in Hsing-ling poetry is a reflection of the literati's attitude towards the retro trend of thought upon the coordination of social reality.Third,the structure of “gusto”(ch'ü) can be viewed as an artistic expression of Hsing-ling poetry.Through the interpretative illustration,the paper contends that Hsing-ling poetics is a representation of repeated semiotic sets of Chinese literati's “narcissistic” consciousness in their times.The unity of self-referentiality and rationality of poetic language,to some extent,conveys their sympathy for human nature and admiration for individuality through brilliant literary talents.The paper not only opens up a new way for modern philosophical speculation of ancient Chinese literary theories,but also provides a new perspective for the Chinese interpretation of world semiotics.
