Abstract: Comparative arts studies in the knowledge system of comparative literature is an important field in the American School of Comparative Literature. Intermedia arts studies, which gradually developed on the basis of comparative arts studies, has attracted continuous attention in recent western academic circles. However, this field has long been ignored in China. Based on the literature review of American School of Comparative Literature, this paper will focus on the main types of comparative studies between literature and music, literature and visual arts, literature and architecture, literature and film, literature and theater. In the retrospective surveys, this paper explores the focuses and developments of the fields, which could be viewed as the main academic achievements of comparative arts studies, in the hope that it could evoke attentions to such fields, enrich and improve comparative literature studies in China, and then develop an influential Chinese school of intermedia studies.
