Abstract: The so-called implicit intercultural theatre refers to such theatre that has no visible intercultural patterns like intercultural adaptation, intercultural performance and intercultural integration in its forms, but implicitly possesses deep intercultural conflict, communication or integration in its spirit. The foundation of implicit intercultural theatre is rooted in the origin of theatre, while the objective and subjective reasons of its development are determined by the exchange between different cultures and the pursuit of highly aesthetic values by playwrights. Compared with the explicit intercultural theatre, the core values of the implicit one lie in its aim not to lead audience to appreciate “interweaving cultures in performance”, but to enter a possible world to explore the problems and the solutions of the human society. It has no intention to provide a new kind of theatre, but intends to influence the modern spirit by those implicit cultural conflict or cultural confrontation, and to reshape our personality structure by inner aesthetic telepathy. Therefore, the implicit intercultural theatre is more likely to cause spiritual resonances and profound reflections beyond time and space, and it is more likely to enter the classic process, and to be more close to “world drama.” It is more suitable to be regarded as an important direction of drama creation in the era of globalization.
