Threshold Writing: An Approach to Literary Anthropolo-gy

Abstract: Literary anthropology discovers the “new elements” of people and things from historical margins, attachments, gaps, and undetermined areas, which is precisely the threshold writing. “Liminality” in literary anthropology refers to the temporal and spatial migration in myth narratives, the transformation of identity in folk ritual activities, and the boundary effect in ethnic identity. “Liminality” promotes the study of literary anthropology to follow a new value and spawns a new horizon — Limenology. The appearance of “Limenology” is roughly embodied in four aspects: Firstly, it prompts a new cognitive paradigm for people to understand cultural texts that is Culture as Text; Secondly, to perceive “boundaries” between different things that may nurture “channels” linking each other; Thirdly, to help people to achieve self-clarity in the “ambiguous” transition and transition interface of things, and to pursue “harmony” and “reconciliation” and “integration and mastery” in the clarity of the environment, rather than the exclusive “unity”; Fourthly, to abandon the “center-edge” paradigm when observing the civilization of the other, and to re-understand the world from the perspective of the “intertextuality” theory of Rutherford, Deleuze, Guattari, Heidegger and Julien.
