Abstract: The Chinese Literature Research Society founded by Yoshimi Takeuchi, Taijun Takeda and other graduates from Tokyo Imperial University is the pioneer of Japan's modern Chinese literature research. Keitaro Tanaka, the owner of the Bunkyudo bookstore, is a very important patron of this society. He supported them by not only book and journal publishing, literature and academic resource providing, but also cooperating with them in opposing sinology as an official authority and criticizing the doubun theory. Tanaka used his social network to make Bunkyudo bookstore into a field where the Chinese researchers were able to communicate with each other freely. This field helped the Chinese Literature Research Society use translation against the mainstream ideology.
