Abstract: China is an ancient civilization with a long history and brilliant culture, with a large number and a wide variety of documents surviving. Hence, historical philology and classical philology studying these documents emerged. Since the 1970s, along with the introduction of computer technology, it gradually became common to use computer and database technology in ancient books collation and literature research, and some important changes on the object, means and concept of philology occurred. A new interdisciplinary and frontier discipline, digital documentation, thereafter developed. On the basis of inheriting the traditional philology, its appearance will certainly stimulate new academic growth points, and at the same time will have an important impact on the development of traditional literary and historical disciplines such as Chinese classical literature, Chinese history, Chinese philosophy history, etc. Additionally, when we use new technology to inherit and carry forward our excellent national culture, we should also learn from the concepts and ideas of other countries such as Japan in the field of document digitalization.
