Abstract: The concept of Sinologism has attracted wide attention and controversy in academia since it was proposed. An examination of the rise, development, discussions and debates on Sinologism would be helpful not only for understanding its scholarly mechanism and conceptual core,but also for perfecting its theory and promoting a healthy development of sinological studies. The discussions and debates of Sinologismhave set a fine example for academic criticism in terms of breadth, depth, and intensity, and will offer inspiring insights for constructing a Chinese system of original academic discourse and conducting healthy and rational academic criticism in the context of globalization. In a word, a critical analysis of and reflections on the status quo of Sinologism will facilitate the appearance of new ideas that promote its deep-going development.
