Abstract: Pearl S. Buck is a special cross-cultural author. She lived in China and the United States for several decades respectively, traveled to many European and Asian countries, and received a bilingual and bicultural education in Chinese and English, which resulted in her broad cross-cultural vision. Through The Good Earth Trilogy, East Wind: West Wind and The First Wife and Other Stories, she succeeded in reshaping China's international image; with her China As I See It and The Chinese Novel among other non-fictional writings, she presented her viewpoints on Chinese culture, and on the similarities and differences between Chinese culture and Western culture; and by finding Lin Yutang and other Chinese authors and helping to edit Asia magazine she explored the new paths for the transmission of Chinese culture in the world. All of those endeavors reflect her cross-cultural awareness and vision. Her combination of cross-cultural writing and practice is constructive, and it also provides a perspective for us to have a more objective appraisal of her cross-cultural understanding.
